Spanish hopeful Pau Cubarsi, 17, has extended his contract with FC Barcelona, his training club, until 2027, Barça announced in a press release this Thursday.

“FC Barcelona and the player Pau Cubarsí have reached an agreement to extend his contract, which will bind him to the club until June 30, 2027,” writes the Catalan club, adding that his release clause will amount to 500 million euros .

Trained at La Masia, the central defender is, with winger Lamine Yamal, 16, the new face of a rejuvenated Barça. Launched last January by his coach Xavi Hernandez, Pau Cubarsi has experienced a meteoric rise by establishing himself as a starter from his professional debut, showing great maturity for his young age.

Author of remarkable performances, notably in the Champions League against Naples and PSG, brought the stability and serenity that was missing from a Catalan defense that was far too feverish, which had a series of poor performances. The Catalan player, called up to the Spanish selection after only a dozen matches played professionally, should be part of the La Roja group for Euro-2024 in Germany next June.
