With American businesswoman Michele Kang officially in charge since Thursday, Lyon is entering a new era and hopes to continue to maintain its domination of French football against its great rival, Paris-SG, on Sunday at home (9:00 p.m. ) to close the 15th day of women’s D1.
OL women are leaders of the championship with ten points ahead of PSG who have one game less but this gap has no impact on the title: to award it, play-offs will be organized between the four top of the rankings for the first time.
This is the third confrontation between the two clubs this season and Olympique Lyonnais has already won the first two at the Trophée des Championnes (2-0) and on the second day of the championship (1-0) at the Parc of Princes. “It remains the duel at the top. “For us, the arrival of Ms. Kang does not bring anything new concretely because we have already been moving forward on her project with her internally for several months,” underlines the technician, appointed by Jean-Michel Aulas in April 2021.
“Michele’s plans are very good news for French women’s football. Mr. Aulas was a pioneer in taking our discipline to the next level and he maintains the same ambitions. It gives the club the means to continue at the highest level and compete with the English and Spanish. She also lets us work,” she says.
“We all want to have a more competitive championship with as many clubs as possible playing the game to have beautiful posters, with people in the stadiums, lots of media to cover the events. This is why we do this job,” insists Sonia Bompastor who hopes to see a good turnout on Sunday at the Groupama stadium.
“The PSG which will present itself on Sunday is totally different from the two matches which we have already played at the start of the season. Coach Jocelyn Prêcheur had just been appointed, Tabitha Chawinga was just arriving, Clare Hunt also, and Marie-Antoinette Katoto was absent,” warns Bompastor. “This team has gained strength since then and no longer has the same face at all and automatisms have been created. We expect a very difficult match even if we concentrate above all on ourselves,” she adds.
