Canadian Ethan Katzberg surprised everyone by winning the hammer throw event at the World Athletics Championships with a throw of 81.25m on Sunday in Budapest.
Kazteberg, 21, won ahead of Polish and reigning Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki (81.02m) and Hungarian Bence Halasz (80.82m), who won world bronze for the second time in front of a stadium largely committed to his cause.
The latter offers his country a first medal in these World Championships at home, the eighth in the history of Hungary. The five-time Polish world champion Pawel Fajdek finished at the foot of the podium (80.00 m).
