Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström was crowned world champion in the 50m freestyle on Sunday in Fukuoka (Japan), her 12th individual world title.

The 29-year-old swimmer won in 23 sec 62/100th, ahead of the Australian Shayna Jack (24 sec 10) and the Chinese Zhang Yufei (24 sec 15). She who had improved her own world record the day before in the semi-final (23 sec 61), therefore went one hundredth from equaling it on Sunday. On Saturday, she also won the 50m butterfly.

Sarah Sjöström is one of the outstanding faces of these world championships in Fukuoka. At 29, she has an impressive track record including 12 individual world titles as well as an Olympic title in the 100m butterfly at the Rio Games in 2016.
