The French second line of the English club Harlequins, Lenaïg Corson, announced Thursday the end of his sports career at the end of this season.
The 34-year-old (30 caps), who had already retired from international duty last August, will play her last match against Worcester on Saturday.
“Now is the time to open a new chapter in my life and return to France,” Corson said in a statement posted on the Harlequins website.
“I look forward to starting my own projects, focusing on raising awareness of climate change and helping to implement actions within our community and schools to ensure we make sustainable choices,” added the player.
“I am also delighted to work as a consultant for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2023 and to help my country organize a great tournament. Go the Blues!”, launched Corson.
“It was beautiful… THANK YOU RUGBYYY!!! These 14 years have been GOLD in my life
Former heptathlete, Lenaïg Corson started rugby at Stade Rennais, before spending a season in Australia at Burnside and returning to Rennes. In 2018, she joined Stade Français.
In August 2022, after the announcement of her international retirement, she tried the English adventure by signing with the Wasps. But the club went bankrupt and Corson bounced back to Harlequins.
Harlequins coach Amy Turner hailed the player: “We loved having Lenaïg at Harlequins this season. She brought a lot of energy and experience to our team and had a huge impact both on and off the pitch.”
The Breton born in Paimpol first played with the French rugby 7s team, before playing five Six Nations tournaments and the 2017 World Cup (3rd place) with the XV of France.
