Good Morning America’s Katy Perry took Good Morning America’s crew behind the scenes at her Las Vegas residency Wednesday morning (Dec 29), and showed them the hectic preparations that go into launching her “Katy Perry Play” series at The Theatre at Resorts World resort/casino.
Perry also previewed the 19 song setlist. It includes all the KatyCats love to hear and some surprises. Perry said that it’s always a race for the finish line when you launch something this big. He spoke to GMA about tonight’s kickoff of the 16 show run. It is currently scheduled for December 29 and 31.
“A lot of my shows were figuratively larger that life, but I’m a doll in this one,” the singer said. She was dressed in a Minnie Mouse-style red dress with red polka dots, red velvet glove and a black miniskirt. She compared the show to a mash-up between Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.
The walk-through featured many large props such as giant plungers, giant mushrooms, dancing toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, a two-story bathtub and an anthropomorphic, titanic toilet. A “trash” dress was covered in sequins and a hydraulic stage lifted a huge, slimy snail to view.
The setlist is packed with power and features, including “ET,” the “Chained to the Rhythm,” the “Dark Horse”, and “It’s not the End of the World” songs. The finale includes “Lost/Part of Me/Wide Awake,” Swish Swish,” the “When I’m Go/Walking on Air!” and “Firework.”
Perry’s new collaboration with Alesso, “When You’re Gone,” drops Wednesday at noon ET.
