The Russian president Vladimir Putin could remain in power until 2036. The Duma, the lower Chamber of the Russian Parliament, approved a constitutional amendment that clears the number of presidential mandates of the outgoing project leader, allowing him to reapply for another two consecutive terms as president, and a fifth and a sixth. The amendment must be submitted to a third reading by the Duma, approved by the Senate and signed by the President and finally, as noted by Putin himself – approved by the Constitutional Court and submitted to a popular referendum expected on the 22nd of April. If not there will be a hitch, Putin will reign until 2036, when he was 84 years of age, 36 of which are passed to the power, the more of Josif Stalin.

The day had begun with the second reading in the state Duma, of the constitutional amendments to be submitted to a referendum on April 22. The leader of the Party, liberarl-democratic, proposed to insert at the last moment an amendment calling for the legislative elections. Then intervened in the congresswoman, as well as the first woman to have flown in space, Valentina Tereshkova proposing an amendment that revocasse the roof of two consecutive mandates as president, or at least set back to zero the number of terms of office of the outgoing president.

After an hour, surprise, Putin in person has submitted to the Duma and gave a speech full of suspense. He rejected the hypothesis of Zhirinovskij of early elections, as well as the idea of lifting the roof of the presidential mandates, but said that he was open to the amendment that would azzerrato its number of mandates, always with the prior consent of the constitutional Court and of the people. “The president – he said – is the guarantor of the Constitution. In the most simple terms, is the guarantor of the security of our Country, its internal stability and its evolutionary development”. And added: “We have had enough revolutions: the share of Russia to the revolutions has been exhausted”.

Gone away Putin, the Duma has withdrawn the amendment of Zhirinovskij and approved the second proposal of Tereshkova that allows the outgoing president to run again in 2024, at the end of his fourth presidential term – and the second consecutive, as any other citizen.
