It only took a few days for the first service stations to run dry. Transporters on strike since Monday are blocking several fuel depots in Île-de-France. The sites of Coignières in Yvelines, Gennevilliers in Hauts-de-Seine and Mitry-Mory in Seine-et-Marne are concerned, according to information from the Actu.fr site.
A striker interviewed by our colleagues on the picket line at the Coignières fuel depot counted between 100 and 150 strikers among the tanker truck drivers. The same striker declares that he is ready to “hold out for weeks if necessary”. This social movement was caused by a request from TotalEnergies to its subcontractors in fuel transport. This involves installing an on-board camera in the drivers’ cabin which is triggered in the event of an anomaly, particularly signs of fatigue. The system is also capable of giving audio instructions.
The project aroused the ire of the CGT, which denounced an attack on the privacy of truck drivers. Faced with the bronca, the oil group announced in a letter to the radical union that it was suspending the installation of these technological sensors in order to initiate social dialogue. TotalEnergies also wants to be reassuring about the state of fuel distribution and rules out any threat of shortage at this stage.
