On the edge of the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh at least two people have been killed. Already during the election campaign, it always came back to violence.
The parliamentary election in Bangladesh will be overshadowed by deadly clashes: in Front of polling stations in the South-East of the country, at least two people were on Sunday killed. In the district of Rangamati at least one person died in a dispute between supporters of the ruling party and the opposition conservatives, the BNP, and a further ten were injured, the police announced. In front of a polling station in the district of Chittagong was killed, according to police, the opposition, after the latter had attempted, together with other activists, to tear the ballot paper. The police had the gun, after they had been attacked.
The vote is regarded as a Referendum on the autocratic style of government of Prime Minister Hasina.
The clash in Rangamati took place hours before the Opening of the polling stations. Died was one of the supporters of the government party, as police spokesman Alamgir Kabir, the German press Agency said. Soldiers would have calmed the situation, after the two groups would have been attacked with knives, machetes and sticks. You would obviously want the polling station under your control.
election campaign marked by violence and oppression
As in previous elections, it had come already in the election campaign, to violent clashes between supporters of both camps. At least eight people were killed.
