24-year-old Catriona Gray from the Philippines was the night of Monday crowned as the Miss Universe in Bangkok.
Women from 93 countries had to look Gray, as several of the bookies had as the favourite, walk away with the victory in the competition in Thailand on Monday.
Gray is a tv host, musician and model. Her innovation is among other things, better social circumstances for persons with aids. She is also working to teach poor children in the slums of Manila.
Spain’s representative made history as the competition’s first transgender contestant. She was knocked out in the semifinals, but was brought out on stage to huge applause and cheers from the audience.
south african Tamaryn Green came in second place, while the Venezuelan Sthefany Guiterrez came in third.
21-year-old Susanne Næss Guttorm from Karasjok, norway represented Norway, but was not among the top 20 who qualified.
