It was expected, it’s now official. Tuesday morning, Formula 1 authorities announced the appearance of a new host city for a Grand Prix. Madrid will therefore host a Grand Prix from 2026 until 2035.
The Spanish capital succeeds the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which has organized the event since 1991. The Madrid circuit is a 5.47 kilometer route, mixing urban and non-urban portions. It still needs to be homologated by the FIA. A capacity of 110,000 spectators is planned.
Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 director, seemed delighted: “Madrid is an incredible city, with an exceptional sporting and cultural heritage, and today’s announcement opens an exciting new chapter for F1 in Spain” , did he declare.
