He had been at a Dinner with friends, had passed shortly after midnight to fall asleep at home in peace on his favorite style, namely, reading. That such a project in Berlin to realize new year’s eve, he noticed then, the club music of his neighbours kept awake. Finally, he was asleep, to read without, getting restless. The sound of a dull impact had awoken him in the early hours of the morning.

An unusual noise that does not have awoken him, because it was very loud, but rather because of scary. From the bedroom window, he saw a man lying motionless and prone in the morning coat in the backyard. Without being able to exactly understand how this man got there, he ran down at once.

I had to think of this story immediately to the French Film “La Haine” (hate) by Matthieu Kassovitz. With great fascination I had seen the movie in the 90s. He addresses from the perspective of three young people, riots and police violence in the Parisian Banlieue. The famous opening credits of the movie goes like this: “This is the story of a man who from the age of 50. Floor of a high-rise building. While he falls, he repeats to calm himself down, again and again: ‘here it went quite well, up to here it went quite well…’. But it is not the case, but on the landing!”.

the man in The morning coat, which my friend now stood, was not fallen from the fiftieth floor, but from the first, and his case had nothing to do with the suburbs or with the police. Nevertheless, I could not imagine this case after the attack in the new year’s eve night in the Ruhr area as an image for a – for our case company.

A man tries with his car people down, which he reads as “foreigners” and “foreigners” for him – so he assumes it and understand it immediately, all non – white people are. A Syrian family is hurt, an Afghan mother with a child and a German Turk.

The interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Herbert Reul, the violence in the “westfälische Rundschau” on a status in the society as a whole: “There are in this society at the Moment – and that is bothering me the most – too many, the layers of different Motif that think they have the right to use violence to solve problems”. That the offender should not have any initially obvious Connections to the extreme right-wing scene, refers to the fact that racism is only a marginal phenomenon. Everyone can ask if he would deal differently with this terrorist attack, if the victim were white. Where our society is or where it falls depends on how much we ask ourselves this question. How much of the value of a human life depends on in our society, whether the body is white or not? What such a distinction makes our empathy as a whole?
