After a long run is Skoda now ready to step into the market for electric cars. It happens with a small city car that sets the søstermodellen from the Volkswagen to the wall.

Skoda has swapped the internal combustion engine in its Citigo model out with the battery and electric motor, and the combination provides, according to Skoda a range of 260 kilometres for the new WLTP-norm.

It writes the Norwegian importer on its web site in the occasion that you have opened for the advance reservations of the car.

The current Skoda Citigo is virtually identical to the Seat Mii and VW Up, the latter of which has been available in an electric version for a number of years. Here is scope, however, only given up to 160 kilometres under the old and less accurate NEDC-norm, i.e. less than half of what the new Citigo perform.

It writes to several Norwegian media, including BilNorge.

The Norwegian Skoda-importer writes on his website that the car will be officially launched in may, and the first Norwegian customers would be able to sit behind the wheel in January 2020.

It costs a deposit of 5000 Norwegian kroner to be written on a waiting list for the car, although neither the price or the final appearance is published yet. The importer need do is write that the price will be ‘difficult competitive’, while the appearance of the ‘new electric Citigo will differ somewhat from the current model.

– in This we have rejoiced for a long time. The electric version of the Citigo is a small, smart and practical city car, covering the hverdagsbehov, as many of our customers and Norwegian drivers have, says director of Skoda Norway, Thomas Meiner, according to BilNorge.

He adds:

– therefore, We expect great interest for this car and has estimated that a reservationsløsning is necessary to carry out the customers in the best possible way.

The electric Volkswagen e-Up costs today approximately 182.000 dollars in Denmark. It is one of the quite a few mini-cars, which today can be obtained with the electric motor. While the choice of more expensive models such as the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia e-Niro is increasing rapidly, it is a little slower with the smaller city cars.

Already in February, it came however, that the VW group was planning to electrify Citigo model. Also the Spanish sister, the Seat Mii, is scheduled to be revived as an electric car in the course of this year, but the Seat has not yet set an official date on it.

According to the Norwegian TV2 opens its Skoda importer in June for new bookings, but here it will apply an electric SUV-model, which Skoda has on the way.

It is so far been shown as the concept car Vision iV and get supposedly a range of up to 500 kilometres and the option of all-wheel drive.
