the ROME – To the rhythm more and more quick, successive budgets that affect the victims, the destruction of infrastructure and on the economic consequences of the war that is upsetting the syrian people for the past 9 years. According to UNICEF, 4.8 million children were born during this terrible conflict, which seems to be having its culmination in Idlib, in the North Western region of the Country. A further one million children are born as refugees in neighbouring Countries. Continue to face the devastating consequences of a brutal war.

The numbers of this emergence are dramatic. Seven and a half million children are in need of help. Of these, 5 million are in Syria and 2.5 in the neighbouring countries. 2.6 million children are internally displaced and 2.5 million children are registered as refugees in the neighbouring countries. “The war in Syria marks today, another shameful milestone”, said the general Director of the UNICEF Henrietta Fore, who was in Syria last week. “As the conflict enters its tenth year, millions of children are entering their second decade of life surrounded by war, by violence, from death, and from the displacement. The need for peace has never been so urgent”.

According to the verified data from 2014 up to 2019:
– more than 9,000 children were killed or injured in the conflict;
– nearly 5,000 children – some seven years – were recruited in the fighting;
– nearly 1,000 facilities in schools and medical have been attacked.
These are only the numbers verified, but the true impact of this war on children is likely to be more extensive.

The broader impact of almost a decade of conflict includes:
– two schools out of five cannot be used because the destroyed, damaged, to give shelter to the displaced families or for military purposes;
– more than half of all health care facilities are not working;
– more than 2.8 million children are not attending school in Syria and in neighbouring Countries.
– more than two-thirds of children with mental or physical disabilities requiring specialized services that are not available in their area;
– nearly 20,000 children under 5 years are affected by severe malnutrition and serious, life-threatening;
– 1 in 3 of all mothers in a state of pregnancy and lactation in the North-West of Syria are anaemic;
– the prices of The articles are increased by 20 times from the beginning of the war.

28 thousand kids in the refugee camps. In the North-West of Syria, the escalation of the armed conflict, combined with harsh winter conditions and the collapse of the temperatures, in addition to an already disastrous humanitarian crisis, has imposed a heavy tribute to the hundreds of thousands of children and families. More than 960.000 people, including more than 575,000 for the children, are displaced by 1 December 2019. In the North-East, at least 28.000 children from more than 60 Countries (about 20 thousand just from Iraq) continue to languish in the camps of displacement, deprived of the most basic of services. Only 765 children were returned to their Countries of origin since January of this year.

The context of the most complex in the world. “The context in Syria is one of the most complex in the world – said Ted Chaiban, the regional director of UNICEF for Middle East and North Africa, who accompanied the Fore in his mission in Syria – the violence and the conflict active still sadly in different parts, even in the North-West, with serious consequences on children, while in other parts the children are reconnecting with a part of their lost childhood, rebuilding slowly their lives. It is clear, however – he added – that nine years of brutal fighting have brought the Country to the brink of the abyss. Families have told us that in extreme cases had no other choice but to send children to work or to marry as soon as their girls. No parent should be forced to take such decisions”.

The work of UNICEF with partners. UNICEF works with a wide network of partners inside Syria and in neighbouring countries to provide aid to the children. Only last year it was possible to reach:
– nearly 750,000 of them children with routine vaccinations or immunizations against measles,
– over 1 million children with psychosocial support;
– nearly 3 million children with an education, formal and non-formal;
– more than 5.3 million people with drinking water through the improvement of water supply systems;
– nearly 2 million people with water, sanitation and hygiene-health services.

How you can help. UNICEF currently has need of 682 million dollars to maintain these programs life-saving, but funding is limited. “The only solution to the crisis in Syria is through diplomacy,” said Chaiban – “The humanitarian assistance will not end the war, but will help to prolong the life of the children. We rely on the generous support of our donors to continue to support syrian children, despite all the other crises that are occurring in the region and in the world”.

In the hospitals of Doctors Without Borders. “how Many mothers would not hold their children while bombs are falling everywhere?”, it asks, in a statement issued by Doctors Without Borders (Msf) – and how many fathers need to reassure their children while the shots explode all around?” Continue indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Syria: “there are Three hospitals that we support, close to the line of the front – continues the press release of the Msf – they receive hundreds of wounded and dozens of people that come to us already in-hospital death. This crisis will add to the 1.5 million syrians seeking shelter in camps sovraffolati, while the chill of winter worsens their conditions.

“A disaster that lasted too long”. “Are people traumatized and frightened, they need food, shelter, and the need to warm up. Our physicians and psychologists – is still read in the report-widespread – continue to offer support in various areas of the Country. While in Idlib we are sending medical supplies for surgery and first aid. This emergency has lasted too long. For this, says Msf, we ask that you support our intervention in Syria with a donation. Your contribution turns into medical care, blankets and other basic necessities for the families of syrian fleeing the war.
