Denmark’s perhaps most well-known architects have got rejected their own offer of a headquarters for themselves on the grounds that it is too ugly and not climate-friendly enough.

the Architectural firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) has submitted plans to build a 27 metre high construction to make them even on Sundmolen in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn, but it has a majority in the city of Copenhagen’s technical and environmental Committee now turned thumbs down to. It writes TV2 Lorry.

– For us it was the most about it was not green enough and that we would like, that it was built in a more sustainable material than concrete. Other parties did not care for the look of the building, but for us it was more of the materials, says technology and environment mayor Ninna Hedeager Olsen from the Device list to TV2 Lorry.

She backed up out of the Radical Left, who points out that new buildings should support the political vision to make the city the world’s greenest capital.

– It is not only the aesthetics but also the choice of materials. We shall not as such be tasters, but we must ensure that urban development occurs in line with the narrative on Copenhagen, we would like to represent – namely, a green urban development, says the party’s group chairman, Mette Annelie Rasmussen, to TV 2 Lorry.

One of them, which have a position to Bjarke Ingels’ building appearance, Jacob Næsager from The Conservatives. He calls the proposal ‘rarely ugly’.

– It is very rare, we pull the emergency brake in this way in relation to local plans, but this construction is simply old ugly. The building has to stand at the entrance to Copenhagen harbour, and it fits very poorly into the surroundings. We are the chosen positions, and our position is that it is rarely ugly, ” says Jacob Næsager to TV2 Lorry.

On the other side of the beslutningsbordet sat the Social democratic party, Liberal Alliance and the Danish people’s Party, who voted for the BIG’s construction plans.

– We voted for it, because it lived up to the intentions that lay in the existing local plan that it is a construction, that in its expression must reference that it is an old harbour area, ” says Lars Weiss, chairman of the Social democrats, to TV2 Lorry.

– It is the house of 27 metres, and it is therefore difficult to construct in wood. All construction in Nordhavn must already live up to a particular environmental certification, which is the highest official, available today. And it had to the proposed construction also, of course, he adds.

In the now-rejected plan one can read that the plans from the BIG involved an office building of 27 metres mainly in concrete and glass, with a landscaped promenade at the pier, while there was planted 32 trees on the Sundmolens outermost demolished buildings, we.

With the Technique and environment Committee’s decision sent the plans back to the management, who then must engage in a dialogue with the Bjarke Ingels Group – who is both the builder and the architect on the project. Later you can expect a new bid at the office to the studio submitted.

Bjarke Ingels Group ranks among the world’s most revered architectural firms over the last year. The practice is among other things known and honored for Amager Hill, Ørestadsbyggerierne 8-tallet, VM Houses and the Mountain, the new Noma, Superkilen through Nørrebro and the Museum for Seafaring in Elsinore.

Also in the foreign office with the Danish star architect had great success. Among other things, in New York, where his studio is behind a so-called gårdskraber in Manhattan, there is a combination of a skyscraper and a copenhagen gårdhavebygning.
