Hard blow for the Blues. The presence of Rudy Gobert for the Basketball World Cup this summer (August 25-September 10) in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia is compromised. The player, who comes out of an average season with Minnesota in the NBA, said he had not yet made a decision about his participation.
During the press conference following the elimination of his team in the first round of the play-offs, the international cast doubt on his choice (from 5’22”), explaining that he planned to devote his summer to optimal preparation for the next NBA season, which he wishes to be “the best of his career”.
Usually loyal to the Blues with the exception of Euro 2017 which he had put aside, Rudy Gobert wants to bounce back in the NBA after a season with Wolves without much relief. Author of 13 points and 11 rebounds on average, the 30-year-old lost his All-Star spot despite being voted the league’s best defender three times in 2018, 2019 and 2021. His absence would be very detrimental for the tricolor selection.
