ARE only a few cases, but triggered the alarm of many parents. Four of them in all of the minors tested positive for the coronavirus in the Lombardy region.Doubts, fears and so many questions about the risks and the precautions to be taken. Even if the experts calm down as the children are more protected. At least that is what emerges so far from the epidemiological data on the Covid 19.

Among the four young patients, two were discharged and two are still in the hospital (at the San Matteo of Pavia, and Seriate in the province of Bergamo). They are fine. “From the epidemiological data analysed so far were not reported cases of infection among children, and even deaths, and this makes us think that the virus tends to spare them,” explains Rocco Russo , member of the Italian Society of Pediatrics and head of the operative Unit maternal-child at the Asl of Benevento. “We think that the coronavirus attacks the less children, but because this is a new virus we do not yet know well how to behave at the level pediatric. There are other viruses that instead of attacking more children. And’ the case of, for example, of the respiratory virus cinziziale that prefers the band neonatal”. In short, in the context of a wide range of viruses that we know about, some have a greater impact in the pediatric age group, and others less, but we still don’t know how it will be for the Covid-19.
Children are more secure At the moment, however, the coronavirus affects less children. And families should not be alarmed too. A hypothesis in the field is that the kids lombardi that you are sick because of other coronaviruses already known, may be the partial reactions also with this new strain: “The coronaviruses are a large family of respiratory viruses that can also cause respiratory diseases from mild to moderate such as bronchitis, bronchioliti, pharyngo-tonsillitis, and rarely pneumonia,” explains Susanna Esposito , professor of pediatrics at the University of Parma and president of the World Association for Infectious Diseases and Immunological Disorders (WAidid). “They are viruses that have never aroused great concerns and children who have been affected previously might have a different reaction of the immune system that would be somehow partially protected from the new strain”.
