Paul Gheysens Abandons Permit for Golf Course in Knokke-Heist

Paul Gheysens has long been hoping to build a new golf course in Knokke-Heist, on a 120-hectare piece of land. However, this ambitious project has faced opposition. He was granted a permit last year after several adjustments, but Minister Demir imposed 47 strict conditions.

A local resident and several environmental associations have opposed the permit, while a Brussels non-profit organization has filed a separate appeal due to the lack of an environmental impact study for the project. Minister Zuhal Demir’s office has confirmed that Paul Gheysens has sent a letter to indicate that he is giving up his permit. However, the Permit Disputes Council still needs to make a decision. The case is expected to be handled next week.
