Residents must remain at home and only one member of the family is allowed to go out to purchase food or other necessities once every two days. Residents must pass three rounds of mass screening. Non-essential businesses are closed and transportation links are suspended.

These latest lockdowns also include Yucheng, which includes 500,000 people in Shandong’s eastern province. This shows that China continues to enforce its draconian approach towards the pandemic for the past two years despite earlier indications that authorities would take more specific measures.

China reported an additional 397 cases nationwide of local transmission on Friday. 98 of these were in Jilin, which surrounds Changchun. Changchun is the center of China’s auto industry. Since the outbreak began late last week, the number of cases has risen to 1,100 across the province.

On Friday, only two cases were reported in Changchun. This brings the total to 78 for this pandemic. China’s “zero tolerance” approach to the pandemic has repeatedly prompted authorities to pledge to lock down any community that is home to at least one case.

Another 93 cases were confirmed by the authorities in Jilin, a nearby city that shares the same name with the province. Authorities have placed a partial lockdown on the city and cut travel links to other cities.

After a cluster infection was reported to the university, officials at Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University were fired. Students also complained via social media that students who had tested positive were kept in schools libraries and other buildings under poor conditions.

According to CCTV, the school has reported registering 74 cases and transferring more than 6,000 people into quarantine.

Aerial photos showed students wearing hazmat suits, waiting in the dark and cold for their transfer.
