The start of Marie Toussaint’s European campaign goes from one extreme to the other. For his first meeting, at the beginning of December in Paris, the head of the list of environmentalists made an impression with his “booty therapy”. This choice provoked ridicule, but also criticism in his own camp where some considered this staging inappropriate. A big month later, complete change of scenery. For her wishes to the press planned for Friday, Marie Toussaint chose the Mont Valérien memorial, in Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine), where she will be accompanied by Marine Tondelier, the party’s national secretary.

Highly symbolic, the place is full of history. On this small mountain, which overlooks the capital, 1009 resistance fighters and hostages were shot during the Second World War. Usually, only the presidents of the Republic go there for commemoration ceremonies. “While today there are wars all over the world, we wanted a symbolic place that illustrates peace. It will also be an opportunity to recall the roots of Europe,” explains Marie Toussaint’s entourage.

“It’s a choice that will get people talking so that’s good. Who else would have talked about the wishes of Marie Toussaint?”, comments another environmentalist executive who considers it “rather clever” to organize a staging diametrically opposed to that of the first meeting. “She wants to demonstrate that she can represent everyone,” we decipher. The head of the Greens list also knows that she is significantly behind in notoriety compared to her competitors. The bet: that this type of initiative will allow it to stand out.
