The invitation card had been lying around on Gérald Darmanin’s desk for a while. After his political return to Tourcoing on August 27, the Minister of the Interior will finally fly to Guadeloupe. According to information from the Parisian, confirmed by Le Figaro, he will attend the parliamentary days of the Liot group (Freedoms, independents, overseas and territories), which will take place from September 4 to 7 in the archipelago.

Gérald Darmanin should intervene on September 5 before this heterogeneous formation of 21 deputies – made up of ultra-marines, former socialists, elected UDI and even a Corsican independent. “We have always had a constant dialogue with the Minister of the Interior. It’s easy to work with him because he’s a local elected official, ”we praise those around the group. Last year, these independents had set their sights on the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, Franck Riester, during their traditional back-to-school seminar. “But there, the discussions will be much more political”, affirms a close friend of the group president, Bertrand Pancher.

Because the Liots intend to confirm their role as itchy hair of the government. During the sequence of retreats, they had come close to overthrowing the executive with nine small votes, after the filing of a motion of censure last March. While discussions around the immigration bill remain at a standstill, the small group intends to take advantage of the arrival of the Minister of the Interior to advance its pawns. As for the budget, the latter plead for a “balanced” text without going through article 49.3. “Gérald Darmanin is not stupid, he knows that we represent 21 voices and that he can find allies in us”, we predict within the group.

At the head of a large Ministry of the Interior and Overseas, Gérald Darmanin will not fail to mention the socio-economic issues of the West Indies. From French Polynesia where he is on the move, the minister has also announced the launch of a mission against the “expensive life” in the overseas territories. The elected officials should defend several files, including a major law on the Overseas Territories or the autonomy of Corsica on the Polynesian model.
