In July, Social Security allocated a record amount of 12,017.8 million euros to the payment of the ordinary monthly payroll of contributory pensions, with the payment of 10,055,940 contributory pensions for more than nine million pensioners and 538,856 benefits that add up to the gender gap complement. The amount triggers spending to 11.7% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the last 12 months.

Almost three quarters of the list of contributory pensions in July correspond to retirement pensions, specifically, 72.9%, that is, 8,758 million euros, according to data published today by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations.

Of the 10,055,940 contributory pensions paid, 6,369,023 are for retirement, 2,352,406 for widows, 947,160 for permanent disability, 342,143 for orphans and 45,208 for relatives. The number of pensions grows at an interannual rate of 1.1%.

2,004.4 million euros have been allocated to widow’s pensions, while the payroll of benefits for permanent disability amounts to 1,059.8 million, that of orphans, 163.7 million euros and benefits in favor of family members, 31.7 million.

Of the total of 9,106,289 pensioners, 4.6 million are men and 4.5 million are women. The pension ratio per pensioner is 1.1 benefits per person.

The pension with the most beneficiaries is the retirement pension, with 6.3 million people. Of these, 60.3% are perceived by men. The widow’s pension is received as the main benefit by 1.5 million people, 95.9% of them women. They are followed by recipients of permanent disability (942,229), orphans (324,524) and in favor of relatives (44,549).

The system’s average pension amounts to 1,195.1 euros per month, an amount that includes the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favor of relatives).

The system’s average retirement pension, for its part, is 1,375.1 euros. By schemes, the average retirement pension from the General Scheme is 1,532.5 euros per month, while the lowest is registered by the Self-Employed Scheme, at 915.8 euros/month. In Coal Mining, the average monthly retirement is 2,681.4 euros, and it is 1,523.9 euros in the Sea Regime. The average amount of new retirement registrations in the system amounted in June 2023 (latest data) to 1,391.7 euros per month. For its part, the average widow’s pension is 852.07 euros per month.

In July, 538,856 pensioners received the gender gap supplement, of which 91.2% were women (491,587). The average monthly amount of this supplement in the pension, a fixed amount, after the revaluation applied in 2023, of 30.40 euros per month per child, which is applied from the first child, is 65.7 euros. Of the 538,856 supplemented pensions, 22.8% correspond to pensioners with one child (122,775), who previously did not have access to the maternity supplement. 47.1% of the beneficiaries have two children (253,576); 19.5%, with three (104,924), and with four children, 10.7% (57,581).

For its part, the monthly payroll of pensions for the Passive Classes -military personnel and civilian personnel of the General State Administration, the Administration of Justice, the General Courts and other constitutional or state bodies, as well as civil servants transferred to the autonomous communities- amounted to 2,921.90 million euros in the month of June, the latest data available, which includes extra pay, 312.7 million euros more than the previous year, almost 12 % more.
