The Order of Physicians is a private law institution whose mission is to guarantee the regulation of the medical profession in France and in particular to sanction doctors in the event of ethical breaches.

The Order works closely with doctors by supporting them in their daily practice, regardless of their status and/or specialty. It supports them by providing them with ethical guidance, legal advice, assistance with the administrative procedures for their practice, during their installation and throughout their career. It also administers a solidarity fund intended to provide assistance to doctors facing financial difficulties and to their families.

Preserving the interests of the patient is the Order’s other priority, with the doctor-patient relationship being at the heart of its concerns. It is responsible for guaranteeing the quality of care, ensuring its accessibility, ensuring respect for patients’ rights and the defense of their interests. For this, it has dedicated disciplinary bodies.

Finally, the Order plays an essential role as an advisory body in discussions relating to changes in the health system. The public authorities (Ministry, Regional Health Agencies (ARS), public health bodies) regularly ask him for his opinion on draft regulations, decrees or laws relating to health. The expertise of the Order of Physicians is based, among other things, on surveys concerning various subjects such as medical demography, physician safety or continuity of care.
