After weeks of protests and clashes with so far about 20 deaths is to raise the Chilean government, the minimum wage in the South American country. President Sebastián Piñera signed on Wednesday a draft law, according to which the minimum wage of 301’000 is to be raised to 350’000 Pesos (470 Swiss francs).

“We reply with actions and not just with good intentions to the demands of the people,” said the conservative head of state. “We give our social Agenda, a new impetus.” Approximately 540 000 people could benefit from the increase, to be financed through government wage subsidies.

However, there are in the richest country in the Region, high income disparities, especially in education and health care are very expensive.
