Thirteen climate activists, including representatives of the “Scientist Rebellion” group, were removed by the police from the Wolfsburg Autostadt site on Friday and reported.
On Wednesday, the group glued their hands and feet to Volkswagen’s Autostadt Porsche showroom to protest the German auto industry’s carbon emissions and its responsibility for climate change. “Twelve percent of global CO2 emissions come from the automotive sector,” emphasized spokesman Gianluca Grimalda. Among other things, the group called for a speed limit in Germany, as well as debt relief for countries in the “Global South” that would suffer particularly from climate change.
The operators of the showroom turned off the heating after several hours, and later the light also went out, which the demonstrators complained about on “Twitter”. “We’re not given a bowl to urinate while we’re glued to the ground,” Grimalda wrote. “We can’t order food, we have to take what Volkswagen makes available to us.”
On Thursday, Grimalda had to break off the protest himself, according to his own statements on medical advice, because his hands were swollen and there was a risk of thrombosis. The police then took action against the other activists on Friday. Criminal proceedings were initiated for trespassing, coercion and property damage.
