the car Manufacturers to hurry a bit to get sent their cars to the driving instructor, if it is to the EU commission. In a new proposal, the commission puts up for new cars in 2021, must have learned to slow down automatically, control within the white markings and keep an eye on the speed limit.
Skills, which many cars already mastered, but the proposal puts something new up to do the skills required.
a total Of 11 security systems, which today are often only offered as an option, already about three years to be an equally natural part of new cars like airbags and ABS braking it is now.
According to Auto Express, it applies, for example, also a datarecorder, which logs the data from the accident, advanced sensors, which keeps an eye on signs of fatigue behind the wheel and more action, which increases security for both passengers and pedestrians in case of an accident.
the Commission estimates that the 11 systems combined will be able to save around 7300 life and prevent 38.900 serious injuries between 2020 and 2030.
the EU has an ambition that no people should die in traffic accidents in 2050. Although the number of deaths dropped by 43 percent from 2005 to 2015, then the development according to Auto Express stagnated since 2014, and last year was 25.300 people killed in traffic.
There is therefore need to put new tools in the toolbox, the commission considers that the new proposal also wants to accelerate the shift towards driverless cars.
– 90 percent of all traffic accidents are due to human error. The new mandatory safety systems, we are proposing today, will reduce the number of accidents and pave the way for a future where cars will be connected and driverless, says EU commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska in a press release.
A further four mandatory safety systems will, according to Auto Express follow ‘a few years later’.
the Commission has earmarked approximately 3.3 billion. dollars to, among other things, increase road safety, and the proposal put up to help the member states to ‘identify particularly dangerous road’.
at Home see FDM positively on the EUROPEAN commission’s proposal, although it may be difficult to avoid the price increases.
– From Euro NCAP-test and international experiences and studies, we know that the new security systems make a crucial difference. Both for the drivers but also vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. Therefore, we can only welcome the fact that the EU will now require more safety equipment in new cars, says deputy permanent secretary in the FDM, Torben Lund Kudsk to FDM’s website and add:
– To make safety equipment mandatory is the most effective way to disseminate the technologies to the consumers. For the Danish car buyers it will, however, mean that the cars will be more expensive when we in Denmark has a value-based registration tax on new cars, and thus the charge on the security. Therefore, to illustrate the proposal, once again, why you should reduce and restructure charges. That in Denmark we have taxes on safety equipment, makes no sense.
the Proposal must now be examined in the EUROPEAN parliament and the Council of ministers.
