During a review of the archives of the former president of the Astronomical Company Michael Quaades basement appeared the exchange of letters between the company’s former president and the Albert Einstein up among the ‘junk from sønder cabbages’.

– I had all the stuff lying around, like no other gad have, but since I had to move in november, we would have moved things to our new warehouse, ” says Michael Quaade, who is a trained astronomer from the University of Copenhagen, denmark.

the exchange of Letters took place between 9. in may of 1920 and 21. June 1920 and focused on the lecture, Einstein had to stay in Copenhagen, June 25.

– It was a lecture on the geometrical description of gravity, explains Michael Quaade.

Einstein was invited to Denmark by the then president of the Astronomical Company, Eli Strømgren, in the context of his new theory – the general theory of relativity.

In the letters, it appears that Einstein is invited to stay with Strømgren or at the observatory in connection with his visit. Einstein, who, incidentally, according to Astronomical Company expresses himself very politely, however, stresses that he does not want to be last.

the 41-year-old Albert Einstein was then already world-renowned for its holdings in kvantefysikkens science. The year after the lecture in Copenhagen received the Einstein the Nobel prize in physics for his description of the photoelectric effect.

– Astronomical Company, which was founded in 1916, aims to spread awareness of astronomical research. Today, more than 100 years later, does the discovery of the letters from Einstein to then president Strømgren huge characteristic of the company and is important for our understanding of the company’s history and format, says Majken Brahe Ellegaard Christensen to TV2 Lorry.

Einstein is considered as one of the twentieth century’s most important scientists, since his theories and scientific work in high degree is the basis for our current understanding of the universe.
