About the very first statement that unemployment benefits are limited in time must be , the views already fel apart. Four party chairs are hardly not agree: Wouter Beke of CD&V is particularly in favour of a higher rate of activity: “We need the unemployed to restrict the time, not the benefits, because then we send them to the WELFARE office and the assistance.”
“the over-55s even get no answer on job application”
According to John Crombez of sp.a working limit of the benefits in no time for more people to get the shot. “You have a group of over-55s, who apply for a job and not even get a response. That there are not a few. And now you say ( N-VA and Open Vld , ed.): those people are 55 years old, have 35 years of working and now we send them to the social WELFARE office. I’m going to be really hard to object to this, those people have 35 years contributed.”
Meyrem Almaci of Green wants the existing system to be retained. “Sometimes we may be proud of what we have decided in the past. Unemployment may limit you in time, not the benefit. The harsh reality is that if you do, that people in poverty collapses.” Peter Mertens of the LABOUR party, which, incidentally, physically a bit in the disadvantage since he last week from the stairs at home fell and on crutches, running, close fully. “Those long-term unemployed in Flanders, especially customization required. There is guidance required, and that there must also be above the poverty line.”
“Only country in Europe”
Bart De Wever of N-VA and Gwendolyn Rutten of Open Vld find the statement was a good idea. “We are the only country in Europe where the unemployment benefits still not be limited in time,” says the Weaver. “Greece was there earlier also, and that is not determined in a sample country. (…) Meanwhile we have a champion in not being able to fill vacancies.”
For Rutten, the aim is to “much faster than today with the people to get started. They need a new job or a training, so more activate. But if after two years fails, you will have to try something different.”
Flemish Interests-president Tom Of Greeks is also in favour of a time restriction, but with an exception for those over 50.
In total, the party chairs, arranged according to the size of their party, seven times with each other in a debate about different propositions.
