the UNITED states is threatening the european UNION with increased tariffs of up to 11.2 billion u.s. dollars – equivalent to 75 billion dollars – on a variety of european products. It happens as a result of the european aircraft manufacturer Airbus has received subsidies from the EU.
In a statement says the UNITED states’trade representative Robert Lighthizer, to the world trade organization (WTO) have repeatedly found that the EU’s support for Airbus has had negative consequences for the UNITED states, where the aircraft manufacturer Boeing has at home.
– This case has been running for 14 years, and now is the time to act, says Robert Lighthizer.
– Our ultimate goal is to reach an agreement with the EU to put an end to all inconsistent subsidies for large civil aircraft. When the EU put an end to these harmful subsidies, can the UNITED states’additional customs duties would be abolished, he adds.
According to the news agency Reuters includes a list of european products hit by increased tariffs, spare parts for large commercial aircraft over the dairy products to wine.
The European Union and the UNITED states have in more than a decade, accused each other of providing illegal subsidies to Airbus and Boeing.
Both parties have been taken to pay billions of dollars in subsidies to gain advantage in the global aerospace industry.
