Mohamed Sarif’ve done up to now, brilliantly, his work, and will continue to do so, the office of the President on his Instagram page on Tuesday night. Therefore, President Rouhani will not accept this resignation. “Zarif is not going to be alone, and we (the government) will keep all up to him,” the office of the President.
Zarif had said late on Monday evening on Instagram for his resignation. Observers in Tehran were surprised to find that Sarif announced such an important decision just before midnight local time via a social Medium. But it, too, assumed that the President accept the resignation of his chief diplomats and Sarif, therefore, to continue in office will remain.
Wild speculation
About the reasons of his resignation was, meanwhile, on social media heavily speculated. Some claimed that he had the constant criticism of the hardliners in the Vienna nuclear deal in 2015 and its rapprochement policy with the West tired of it. Others wrote that he was not invited to the Meeting with Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad on Monday and therefore exasperated back stepped. All agree, however, that an end of Sarifs will also lead to an early end of the nuclear deal.
Zarif had on the Iranian side as shown by the nuclear deal with the UN veto powers and Germany. The 2015 agreement should prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. In return, sanctions should be lifted. The USA have now been taken out of the agreement back and imposed new sanctions. Sarif was then advised by internal politics in the criticism.
Rugged response of the United States
According to the assessment of political observers in Tehran, Rouhani for the experienced diplomats, has no Alternative Sarif. In question, his Deputy, Abbas Araghchi, or atomic chief and Vice President Ali would be the most likely-Akbar Salehi. But none of them has the Charisma of Sarifs.
The U.S. government responded, meanwhile, stresses the cooling on the resignation announcement by the Iranian Minister Zarif on the outside. US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo wrote on Monday in the short message service Twitter, the announcement was “taken note of”. Now will wait and see if Sarif give the office actually. “He and (the Iranian leader), Hassan Rouhani, are just straw men of a corrupt religious Mafia.”
In Iran, would have made all the decisions, ultimately, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wrote Pompeo, is known for its tough stance towards Tehran known. “Our policy is unchanged – the Regime must behave like a normal country and its citizens respect it.” (sda)
