The Ministry of Agriculture prepares a new provision in order to improve the traceability of olive oil. The goal is to know all the information of the product from the tree, through the grinding, storage and transport until their arrival at the linear of the supermarket. The measure is to achieve total transparency on each bottle of oil, so it will be fundamental to an increase of all the controls that are, for the most part, depend on the autonomous communities.
In the sector is valued positively, an initiative which has already operated for years, although there are doubts about the existence of the necessary means to carry that work to 2.5 million hectares, 300 million trees and 1,800 mills. It is a system similar to that implemented in 2005 in the dairy sector with the LetraQ, little used by companies.
The margin of other items included in previous negotiations, such as keeping the ban on mixing olive oil with other vegetable oils, the axis of the new provision is that each olive oil that is marketed to have visible effects of the Administration, their identity card.

In that line, the information systems boot from their own olive groves, the cultivation system, treatments applied, grinding and storage of each Vevobahis oil, batches, or items. Unofficially, it was estimated that there would be no issues of discrepancies if many extra-virgin oils are not envasaran as such, knowing that are on the verge of being a virgin olive oil and you run the risk of a slight deterioration with time during the marketing process.
