Fit & Healthy Health Minister Maggie De Block (Open Vld) yesterday launched in Belgium, the Nutri-score. That score determines, on the basis of 5 colors and 5 letters what is the nutritional value of a product is. However, it now appears that there are some surprising comparisons.
Consumers will soon be more and more products on the store shelves on which a Nutri-score is. The score is displayed on the basis of 5 letters, ranging from A (the best score) to E (the worst score) and 5 colors, from dark green (best choice) to red (worst choice) to the nutritional value of a product review. The color and the letter are determined on the basis of an algorithm that was developed by the French Nutritional Epidemiology Research Team. It looks at positive traits or how much protein, fibre, fruit, vegetables, and nuts the product contains and the negative qualities or how much energy, sugars, saturated fat, sodium it contains.
Minister of public Health Maggie De Block (Open Vld) yesterday launched the campaign, but now it seems that there are a few very notable comparisons between these two. These 10 foods were the same or even a better Nutri-score than a quinoasalade.
