The search giant has today expanded its family of smartphones with the Pixel 8a, which will be the most economical of the Pixel 8 family without giving up interesting generative AI features. In addition, this year it has decided to bring the tablet that it announced last year at its developers meeting, Pixel Tablet, to Spain, resuming this segment in which it was already with the old Nexus, and in which it now lands with a somewhat different concept. tablet/panel to control the home.
In Japan, Google’s Pixel phones grew by 527% during 2023 and already occupy the top 3 in the market, while in the United States they grew by 3.6%, a good figure considering the general drop in sales. Despite the great competition in the market, Google terminals seem to have found a niche and the Spanish market is once again attractive.
Proof of this is the expectation that there was for the arrival of the Pixel 8a. It must be remembered that Google refrained from launching some of its Pixels in Spain due to the lack of movement in the market a couple of years ago. But with the Pixel 8 family, Google brings all the equipment to our country and at the same time as in other countries.
Specifically, the Pixel 8a is the most attractive option for the tightest budgets and also becomes a very powerful mid-range phone, both for its camera and for the processor or AI functions.
One of the most interesting aspects is that it works with a Google Tensor G3 chip, similar to the one carried by its older brothers, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. In addition, it will be sold with 8GB of RAM and internal storage options of 128 or 256 GB.
Thanks to the use of this chip, the terminal supports advanced options of Google’s generative AI, Gemini. For example, in the new Pixel 8a it will be possible to access functions such as Circle to Search, which allows the user to circle an image, text or video that interests them and obtain instant information about it. Likewise, Pixel 8a’s Call Assistant includes AI-assisted features such as Call Screening, Direct My Call, Wait for Me, or Clear Calls.
Pixel 8a also includes Audio Emojis, with sound emoticons like a clap emoji or a laughing emoji.
But where Google has focused on generative AI has been above all on the camera thanks to the Tensor G3 chip. In this way, the user will be able to use the Best Version functions, which allows selecting the best expression for each of the people that appear in a photo, or the Magic Editor, which allows modifying the position and size of people and objects. With the Magic Eraser for audio, it is easy to remove noises and improve the clarity of an audio.
Pixel 8a also includes other features, such as High Resolution Zoom with up to 8x magnification, Magic Eraser, Night Vision and Focus Photo. Like the rest of Pixel devices, Pixel 8a includes the Real Tone function, which is responsible for accurately representing each person’s skin tone in photos, and now also in videos.
Although the processor and AI take center stage in the cameras, on paper they are two lenses with a 64MP main lens and a 13MP wide angle lens.
As for the design, it is a terminal that maintains the characteristic style of the Pixel models, with a bar that highlights the camera module from side to side of the phone on the back.
It has IP67 protection, making it the toughest A Series phone to date. As for the new Actua screen, it has a brightness that is 40% higher than that of the Pixel 7a, and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The new Pixel 8a are available in two storage options and colors: aloe (limited edition tone), light blue, obsidian and porcelain. It is available starting today for a price of 549 euros.
The same day that Apple presents its new iPads, Google has decided to launch its Pixel tablet in Spain. But what Mountain View offers is a tablet with an extra, or rather, a 2 (or 3) in 1 tablet.
Google wants its tablet to become a connected home operations center, a powerful speaker and a device for editing photos, beyond using it to watch movies or play solitaire and not leave it forgotten in a drawer.
To make the Pixel Tablet more useful than a conventional tablet, the company has optimized more than 50 Google applications specifically. An example is Google Meet, which adjusts the lighting instantly when moving with the tablet and allows you to make HD quality video calls. The AI technology of the camera and the Tensor G2 chip are responsible for optimizing video calls based on location and lighting at all times.
AI is also very present in this device with tools like Magic Eraser and Focus Photo.
The tablet can work with a charging base (purchased separately) that allows it to be supported as if it were a control panel. This base keeps this device charged and also has speakers that multiply its bass power by four to make it a powerful speaker. In the so-called Base Mode, the Pixel Tablet becomes a practical device with which to interact via Google Assistant to play music and entertainment or as a digital photo frame.
In addition, with integration with Google Home it is possible to access compatible smart home devices to adjust the thermostat or turn on the lights in the living room, thus becoming a connected home control panel.
Another novelty is that it is the first tablet with Chromecast built-in. It can be put into Base Mode to send videos and music from your phone.
The Google tablet is on sale starting today for 499 euros or together with the charging base with speakers for 599 euros.
