Kylian Mbappé is the highest paid athlete in the world. As revealed this Sunday by the newspaper ‘Le Parisien’, the PSG striker signed last May the best contract in the history of professional sport. A contract that will make him earn 630 million euros gross in three seasons if Mbappé fulfills the two years plus an optional one that he signed with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 630 million euros are broken down into three parts, according to information from ‘Le Parisien’. On the one hand, a salary of 210 million euros (70 million per season) that he will receive until June 2025. Secondly, a bonus of 180 million euros that he received for renewing his contract with the French club. And, finally, a fidelity bonus of 240 million euros that he will receive in three parts if he does not leave PSG early: 70 million in 2023, 80 million in 2024 and another 90 if he stays at the Parisian club until 2025.

Mbappé’s contract far exceeds the last signed by Lionel Messi with Barcelona in 2017, and which was revealed in exclusive information published by ‘El Mundo’ in August 2021. The Argentine striker, winner of seven Ballon d’Ors, signed a contract of 555 million euros for four seasons. At that time, Messi was earning what no athlete in the world had ever earned before: 138 million euros a year between fixed, variable and renewal premium.

Mbappé’s contract also exceeds all figures ever reached in boxing, the NBA, American football or Major League Baseball. After Mbappé and Messi, the third largest contract in the history of the sport corresponds to American football player Patrick Mahomes, who in 2010 signed a 10-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs for which he received 510 million euros.

The amounts that Mbappé will receive also exceed any contract previously signed by Floyd Mayweather, the highest paid boxer in history. The American, nicknamed ‘Money’ (money) for the impressive fortune that he managed to accumulate during his active years, signed a 456 million euro contract in 2013 for six fights in 30 months.
