The death of young Nahel, killed by police fire on Tuesday June 27, did not shake the popularity of the police with the French. According to the latest Ifop poll carried out for Le Figaro, they are respectively 43% and 14% to feel trust or sympathy towards the forces of law enforcement, i.e. a total of 57% of positive opinions. The police inspire concern or hostility for 32% of respondents, while 11% of them have no opinion. “There is extreme tension in the country linked to the challenge of the pension reform. A silent majority is in demand for order and security and it is the police who embodies that, ”analyzes Frédéric Dabi, director general of the institute.

“The image of the police remains extremely divided”, specifies however the pollster. Politically first, the police only inspire confidence or sympathy with 20% of supporters of La France insoumise, and 35% of those of ecologists. The figures are higher for those close to the Socialist Party (60%), the National Rally (61%) and even more to Renaissance (84%) and the Republicans (90%). The divide is also generational, since the positive opinions of the youngest (18-24 years old) with regard to the police do not exceed 37%. Unlike those aged 65 and over (74%).

If her position was long overdue after the death of young Nahel, Marine Le Pen is the political figure who emerged the least weakened from the riots which crossed the country: 39% of French people say they are satisfied with her attitude. This is more than Emmanuel Macron (33%), and much more than Jean-Luc Mélenchon, whose troops nevertheless try to carry the voice of working-class neighborhoods. Accused by the benches of the right to stir up anger, the unfortunate presidential candidate harvests no less than 80% of unfavorable opinions.

A similar result for the president of Reconquête!, Éric Zemmour, whose firm speech does not seem to have convinced the French and who only receives 22% of favorable opinions. Just like the president of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti (24%), who has been pleading for several days to establish a state of emergency.

This measure, on the other hand, finds the support of a majority of nearly seven out of ten French people (69%). At this stage, the device is not among those favored by Emmanuel Macron.
