A few thousand people gathered on Thursday in front of Arras Cathedral (Pas-de-Calais) to pay a final tribute to Dominique Bernard, assassinated on October 13 by an Islamic terrorist. The same evening, in Paris, around a hundred demonstrators chanted “Allah Akbar” during a pro-Palestinian rally, authorized by the prefecture.

“That day, to hear Allah Akbar resound, when that is what the Arras terrorist shouted… (…) Those close to Dominique Bernard must have said to themselves: what indecency!” , was moved by Xavier Bertrand, who attended the teacher’s funeral. Guest of the RTL-Le Figaro-M6 “Grand Jury” on Sunday, the LR boss of Hauts-de-France said he was in favor of a “ban in each of the departments” of demonstrations in support of Palestine which, according to him, are , likely to present “a disturbance to public order”. “If in a single demonstration we hear support for Hamas, that means that it is an apology for terrorism. We cannot be complacent,” he explained.

Faced with the “terror” sowed by Hamas, Xavier Bertrand calls on the government in particular to provide “total support for Israel” to eradicate the terrorist organization. “It is a response that is necessary for France,” he insisted, while at least 28 French people were killed during the attacks on Israeli soil. Proof, according to him, that the threat from Hamas also hovers over Western countries, and even more so in France. “France is one of those who must clearly say that, if we reject Islamic terrorism, we are on the side of Israel,” he argued.

In this “war” that “Islamic terrorists” are waging against us, Xavier Bertrand wants to put “those who are dangerous” out of business. A firmness which, according to him, must be demonstrated by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, against foreigners targeted by OQTFs and likely to “disturb public order”. “I propose the administrative detention of all these people as soon as the OQTF is pronounced,” launched the boss of Hauts-de-France, to prevent the route of the attacker from Arras – whose expulsion had been canceled – will not happen again. “Someone who doesn’t like France, who doesn’t respect our values and who, what’s more, can attack us, is out there.”

It is this same firmness that must also be applied against the young people who disrupted, last Monday, the minute of silence in tribute to Dominique Bernard. According to the Ministry of Education’s count, 179 students disrupted this moment of contemplation in schools. “Young people and families must be sanctioned. Not respecting this minute of silence says a lot about the attitude they may have towards this Islamic terrorist,” warned Xavier Bertrand.
