A vertex and symbols. On behalf of the Regions of France association chaired by Carole Delga, Renaud Muselier will travel to Kiev in Ukraine on April 20 to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky there on the occasion of the first summit of European cities and regions.

The President of the South region has planned to speak to discuss France’s place in the war effort and to recall the regional solidarity already in place. Its territory of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur has already committed 10 million regional and European credits for the reception of refugees.

For President Zelensky, this summit will be an opportunity to talk about the future and the prospects for the reconstruction of Ukraine, which has been subject to a Russian invasion since February 24, 2022. For the Ukrainians, before the time comes reconstruction, each region of the country (oblast) will have to work with other European regions to create partnerships and rebuild. This is the ambition of this meeting, which will be attended by many European and Ukrainian leaders (European Committee of the Regions, regional authorities of the Council of Europe, etc.). According to the organizers, the holding of the event will nevertheless depend on the local context.

Besides the capital of kyiv, Renaud Muselier must also go to Odessa where he will take part in a ceremony to commemorate the fallen heroes of Ukraine and to speak with the governor of the region. Before going to Ukraine, he will pass through Romania and Moldavia where he will visit a school welcoming Ukrainian refugees.
