the time Came for the truth, and Cándido Ibar is hopeful. But 24 years of process we have been taught to be cautious. “There we go, against everything, but good”, says the father, before entering the room where his son, Pablo Ibar, was sentenced to death in the state of Florida in the year 2000, accused of a triple murder of which he has always pleaded not guilty, has once more played life.
What encourages Cándido Ibar is that this time, at least, have a defense better than the one that carried his son to the corridor of death. “But the opponents are strong too,” warns the expelotari and brother of the famous exboxeador Urtain, immigrant basque who came to succeed to the united States and has about 24 years fighting for the life of your child. “The judge is not on our part. It has been hard and it is going to be. The judge and the prosecutor worked together and his wife was a prosecutor in the first appeal. We wanted to change of judge, but nothing. He was presented a volunteer. It is a further abuse. One of the many. Paul is well. But is tired of so much injustice,” says the father.

Pablo Ibar, case reopened-The last word for Pablo Ibar’s time for The truth of Pablo Ibar
On the inside, two policemen removed to Pablo Ibar the violent chains that bind him hands to the torso suit. Has the lost look of someone who has spent half of his 46 years in prison, 16 on death row. Judge Dennis D. Bailey calls the members of the jury, entering the room. Eleven women and seven men (there are six alternates) that will decide if Pablo Ibar is executed or spends the rest of his life free. The judge reminds them that they can’t talk about the case among themselves until the moment of the deliberation. They must decide only on the basis of the facts exposed between these four walls. That should not be reported for your account, on the Internet, about a case that has generated enormous public attention. So much, that a group of senators and deputies spaniards have gone to the oral hearing. “What we ask is a fair trial after 24 years. We come to stand in solidarity with the family and to affirm our defense of human rights”, explains María José Fernández Muñoz, senator socialist.
The trial, which has started this Monday in a court in Broward county (adjacent to Miami), will last several months. The jury must decide if Ibar is or is not guilty of killing Casimir Sucharski, the owner of a local nightclub, and the dancers, Sharon Anderson and Marie Rogers. After a process that ended without the jury could issue a unanimous verdict, and the other is declared null and void, in August of the year 2000 Ibar was sentenced to the maximum penalty. He was also convicted for the same case Seth Penalver, who was acquitted after appeal his conviction and repeated his judgment.
The defence of Ibar, an attorney who has entered a spiral of self-destruction, was, to say the least, deficient. Since then the family fight for a fair trial. Two times he refused the repetition and, in the end, the Supreme Court of Florida admitted in 2016 that Ibar had been convicted with “evidence rare and weak” and that he had not had a defense “effective”.
The new trial has begun with the initial claims of the parties. Judge Bailey gave the floor first to the prosecution. Who took it was not Chuck Morton -the veteran prosecutor retired to those who are afraid of Candido, who was sentenced to death for Ibar in the year 2000 and was asked Güvenilir Casino Siteleri to return the exercise only to be able to deal with this case – but a prosecutor more young man sitting next to him.
Strolling around the lectern, arms crossed, without look away from the members of the jury, the State representative explained that the detectives went to the residence of Sucharski made an “amazing discovery” in the scene of the crime: a camera, connected to video equipment, with a tape inside that you can learn about what happened that early morning of June 26, 1994. Two assailants armed, one touched with a cap and the other with a t-shirt covering his face, beat and shot brutally to the three victims. At the end of the video, the guy is covered with the t-shirt you take it off and dry the sweat with it. What it demonstrates, says the attorney, pointing in the direction of the defendant, is that “that man is the lord Ibar, which is sitting there”.
The prosecutor’s office announced that it would submit as evidence that t-shirt. After several DNA analysis that found no trace of Ibar in all these years, a new one carried out in 2016, they say, throws a match in a very small surface area.
next, Bailey gave the word to the defense. Attorney Kevin Kulik -wearing “your green tie for luck,” joked his colleagues at the entrance – he explained that the police “manipulated every one of his witnesses”, down by the hype that surrounded the case. “They found a man who resembled the video and decided to go for it, leaving of side all the runs,” he explained.
The police distributed by the police stations a leaflet with the face of the suspect, captured a couple of frames of the video. Then an agent, who had stopped to Ibar for a fight that didn’t have to do with the case, called and said he had a prisoner that resembled that of the image.
The attorney reviewed the contradictions of the main witnesses. And wondered why supposedly there is only a speck of DNA Ibar, when the gunman in the video was wearing the t-shirt in the face and would have to be filled with saliva and sweat. It is, he explained, but full of saliva and sweat of the “Unknown number 1”, as identified in the different analyses, including the latter, the main contributor anonymous DNA. With respect to the small trace genetic Ibar appeared 16 years later, the lawyer defends that he was put there by the police, and explains that the t-shirt came to the laboratory in an envelope without a close, and with more objects in the interior. The t-shirt is poised to be a key element in the fate of the defendant.
The exposure of Kulik met the family of Pablo Ibar. “Is the boot that we have been waiting for all these years,” said Tanya, his wife, who visited him every Saturday for 16 years on death row, and wears a necklace with a pe of silver and glowing on her black dress. “Support, we have everything. Now if only the jury… I think that this time is going to be. It has to be”, he shoots Candid.
