VCC suffers defeat against HBS

Due to the World Cup cricket being held in the United States during the Dutch competition, reigning champion VCC was missing four players: Kingma, Levitt, Engelbrecht, and Ryan Klein. Without these internationals, VCC struggled against HBS, who were also missing internationals Wesley Barresi and Kyle Klein: 287-276.

VCC won the toss and chose to let HBS bat first. This decision did not go well as a missed catch when top batsman Walbrugh was on just six runs allowed HBS to reach a high score of 287 runs. South African Walbrugh eventually scored 97 runs, and his compatriot De Villiers scored 82. In the Voorburg attack, Mees van Vliet stood out with four wickets for 37 runs.

Despite good scores from Nehaan Gigani (71), South African Gavin Kaplan (57), and Noah Croes, VCC ultimately fell short by twelve runs for the win.

HCC emerges victorious
HCC managed to secure a win against Excelsior ’20 with a total of 185 runs. Five players from The Hague made scores between 25 and 36 runs. Thanks to four wickets from Teun Leijer and three from Jed Wiggins, Schiedam could only reach 125 all out.

Only VRA and HCC remain unbeaten in the Topklasse. Standings: VRA 2-4, Punjab, VCC, and HBS 3-4, HCC 1-2, VOC and Hermes DVS 2-2, Excelsior, ACC, and Sparta 2-0.

In the Dutch national team that narrowly lost the World Cup match against South Africa in New York on Saturday afternoon, there was a significant representation of players with Hague roots: Kingma, Levitt, Engelbrecht, De Leede, and Pringle.
